What:
A Cache In, Trash Out event officially recognized by the Tompkins County Highway Department under the Adopt-a-Highway program.
In keeping with the 12-12-12 theme, you will pick up at least 12 pieces of trash to log this CITO event (see details below)
.

When:
Open House Hours 3:00 - 4:30 on Wednesday, December 12th. Arrive any time within this time-frame; clean-up will end at 5pm sharp.
The clean-up activity should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete. Everyone will be done and ready for the real 12-12-12 event to start nearby at 5:30.

Who:
All Geocachers age 10 and above (roadside conditions are not kid-friendly)

Where:
IthacaDoodle will be stationed at a table near the posted coords at the intersection of Turkey Hill and Ellis Hollow Creek. There is roadside parking available nearby, especially along Ellis Hollow Creek.

How Does This Work???:
If you attended our Fall 2008 or Spring 2010 events, you know the general area but, because of the winter conditions, the set-up will be a bit different this time around and we will not be walking the route as a group:
        1) Check in with IthacaDoodle at GZ to receive your orange helmet and reflective vest, to pick up your collection bag, and to sign the Tompkins County Highway Waiver (if you attended a previous EH CITO event, your waiver is already on file and does not need to be re-signed.)
        2) Collect at least 12 pieces of trash along Turkey Hill Road. You can start out walking either North or South from GZ OR drive to another location along the road to begin your search, perhaps conveniently parking nearby one of the cache locations along the route.
        3) Return your collected trash to GZ to sign the CITO event logbook and become eligible for one of 3 trackable prizes. After you have done your pick up and checked out, you are free to go - you do not need to wait until the end of the CITO event as prizes will be handed out at the evening event.

Prizes will be presented at the evening 12-12-12 event for:

1) cacher with the craziest CITO find (try to beat those coconuts or TV w/ remote from previous years!)
2) cacher who finds the most redeemable bottles/cans, and
3) cacher with the most CITO collected
---- NB: All finds must be made along Turkey Hill Road between 3-5pm -- absolutely *no* car or household trash allowed as per Tompkins County Highway Department - thanks! ----

Why:
*CITO is a fundamental part of caching - enjoy awesome geo-company and geo-camaraderie while doing a productive public service.
*You will get one of those hard-to-get CITO icons for your caching stats (and for the busy day challenge).

*Photo opportunities at the Ellis Hollow Geocaching Adopt-a-Highway signs in your reflective orange gear.
*Local geocachers have officially adopted this stretch of road and are responsible for its maintenance twice yearly.
We have had two event clean ups and have been doing the job independently in between. The road was pristine as of early August 2012, but there is a new accumulation of fall debris that warrants attention before heavy snowfall.

What to bring: yourself and a pair of gloves (optional). We will have everything else available at the registration - hot cider, bags, orange helmets, reflective vests, and clean up supplies. Currently there is no snow on the ground in Ithaca. Event will be held unless there are significant winter conditions that preclude it.

*Geocachers have been keeping this stretch of road clean since 2008 - help keep the tradition alive!
