A Dark & Stormy Night #3: WiFi Wardrive Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Moun10Bike: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a level 5 terrain because you will need WiFi equipment. If you don't, you can beg, borrow, or bring a WiFi friend geocaching who has a laptop or PDA with a wireless network card, and free WiFi detection software NetStumbler, or for MACs use MacStumbler.

If it is a dark and stormy night, with the exception of a quick dash to the cache container, you can complete, and log, this entire cache without leaving the comfort of your vehicle. The final cache is located by a free WiFi hotspot. How convenient!

WiFi is short for wireless fidelity. It refers to a local area network which uses high frequency radio signals to send and receive data over short distances (approx. 200 feet). Wardriving is the benign act of locating and mapping wireless access points while in motion (driving, walking, etc.). Do not access anyone's WiFi. Simply note it's MAC address to solve the puzzle. You do not have to access the WiFi connection to get to the MAC address. It is the same principle as keeping off private property when geocaching.

You will not need to look at your PDA or laptop while driving. To solve the puzzle you will only need to drive down two streets and into one parking lot. When you arrive at the third waypoint simply park your vehicle. If you are using Netstumbler all of the waypoints will be displayed in order, as listed below. This will make it very quick and easy for you to compute the final waypoint. The cache container is a 9" long, 3" wide black tube.
