Fascinating Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

tozainamboku: Hate to archive my first hide but the cache was pretty much destroyed by the station fire. I hid a new cache and made it a multi like this one was originally. I doubt it will get found very often.

Geocache Description:

Please note the change of coordinates, as this is no longer a multi-cache.
A 7 mile round-trip through the hills above Sunland, California. You will pass two small springs, Oak Spring and Fascination Spring.

Take Little Tujunga Road (Osborne Street) from Foothill Blvd to Gold Creek Road (about 4.2 miles). Take Gold Creek Road to the Oaks Spring trail parking area. If the parking area is not open, you can park along the road opposite the trailhead at 34° 19.13' N 118° 20.015' W. You will need a National Forest Adventure Pass to park here (except for the last Saturday of each month in 2003).

The cache originally contained:

  • Log book & pencil
  • colored chalk
  • spring toy
  • wrist compass
  • eyeglass repair kit
  • emergency poncho
  • toy car

This hike will take you through a recently burned area. This is where the first stage of this cache was when it was a multi-cache. The fire fighters built a new fire break to contain the fire to this relatively small area. The trail is partially obscured by the fire break. You will need to follow the firebreak to Oak Spring trail camp where you can cross the creek an continue on the trail.

The total trip is seven miles on trails that are sometimes steep. Except for the welcome shade near the two springs the hike is mostly through chapparal. Take plenty of water and wear good hiking shoes. The cache can also be done on mountain bike or horseback. Due the the steepness of the trail I recommend only advanced bikers. The new parking lot has spaces for horse trailers.

You can answer the question "Where did I leave the keys to the truck?" along the way. And Groundspeak Premium members can also bag Buffalo Gal's Sunland Gold Creek Cache.
