Things you might not know about
Aluminum:
- Since 1972, an estimated 660-plus billion
beverage cans have been recycled—placed end-to-end; they
could stretch to the moon nearly 300 times.
- Aluminum is nonmagnetic and nonsparking.
- Corrosion resistance can be excellent due to
a thin surface layer of aluminum oxide that forms when the metal is
exposed to air, effectively preventing further oxidation.
- Almost all metallic aluminum is produced from
the ore bauxite.
