There are many choices of historic
places for the New Castle Hundred cache, but this may be the
most significant geographical reference point for this
Hundred, if not for the entire state.
The cache is located inside a historical building, so you will
have to go when it is open. There is no admission fee.
The hours are: 10:00 - 3:30pm Tue. - Sat., 1:30 - 4:30pm Sunday,
Closed Mondays and State Holidays.
The coordinates listed are for the location of the building. To
find the cache, you will have to find William Penn. He is holding
the cache for me, and would really love to be in your log picture
with you. Just one part of the historical significance of this
building is the major role it played in determining the boundaries
of Delaware.
The building is currently undergoing renovations, so unfortunately
you will not be able to tour the entire building until April, 2007.
At that time, the staff has agreed to let me reposition the cache
to the exact spot that was used for the state boundary
calculation!! So while you are visiting this cache and enjoying
learning about the building, be sure to let the good folks there
know how much Delaware Geocachers appreciate their support!
