Mount York Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Ngaambul: As there's been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it's been a number of months since the last owner note. I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 30 days), just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it. Should you replace the cache after 30 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

Mount York is at the end of Mount York Road which starts at an intersection of the Great Western just to the west of Mount Victoria right before you start your descent down Mt Victoria Pass. Mount York is at an altitude of approximately 1060 metres and it’s at this point where the steep descent of Cox's Road to Hartley Vale commenced.
At Mount York you will find an obelisk and monument to explorers Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth and to road builder William Cox also there is a 'Footsteps in Time' marker to commemorate the survey of the road across the mountains by George Evans.

This area is also a popular area for Mountain Bike riding and abseiling as well as for furthering your knowledge of the local history.
Also from the Mount York Road you can access some of the other historic roads and passes which were used as access to the valley below such as Berghoffers Pass, Lawsons Long Alley and Lockyers Road.
