Geocache Description:

The first cache in Westchester County's newest preserve, the Angle Fly Preserve.

We are calling this cache Angle Fly No. 1 in the expectation that the Angle Fly Preserve will prove to be a popular destination for the caching community and that additional caches soon will be placed here. With 654 acres, there will be plenty of opprtunities for exploration -- and caching -- especially as more trails are developed.

The first trail opened on Oct. 3, 2009 -- coincidentally the birthday of one half of the Old Bet team. The yellow trail is a 1.8-mile loop, and we tried to approximate the midpoint in placing this first Angle Fly cache. You may be tempted to bushwack, but please don't. Stay on the marked trailway until you are 50 feet or so from the cache. The entrance to the preserve is on Route 138 (Primrose Street) at N41 17.706 W073 43.006. After passing through the gate, proceed another four-tenths of a mile to the parking area and trailhead at N41 17.471 W073 43.155. Caution: Gates are open from dawn until 7 p.m. Basically, this is a daylight-only cache.

The Preserve protects the Angle Fly Creek, said to be the last natural spawning waters for brook trout in Westchester County. Lacking brook trout, we opted to seed the cache with a few "things that swim." There's also a NY lottery scratch-off ticket for FTF honors. But we hope this cache serves as an invitation to visit this Preserve, and not merely as a repositry for trade-good trinkets.

The Angle Fly Preserve is owned by the town of Somers and the New York City DEP, and was developed with financial contribution from New York State and Westchester County. The trails are being developed by the Somers Land Trust.

Congratulations to Grschmid and Sonet150 on their shared FTF.
