Linné red genom Vickleby på 1700-talet och uttryckte sej på följande vis ”de skönaste lundar man någonsin sett”.
Och visst är det vackert, särskilt på våren, i april och maj lite beroende på vädret så är marken täckt med en matta av blåsippor, vitsippor, och gulsippor.
För bara några hundra år sen fanns det vidsträckta ädellövskogsområden längs Ölands västra kust, dessa sträckte sej från Borgholm och ner till Smedby på södra Öland. Större delen av dessa marker är idag åkermark, eller omplanterat med barrskog. Vickleby ädellövskog är en del av det som finns kvar från dessa frodiga lundar med lövskog. Området är 47,5 ha stort och ingår i Natura 2000.
Det är ett rikt fågelliv i den skyddade skogen. Vid en inventering fann man 41 häckande arter.

And they are beautiful, especially in springtime, in April and May depending on the weather the ground is covered with a carpet of blue, white, and yellow anemones.
For only a few hundred years ago there were large areas with deciduous forest along Ölands west coast. Most of the deciduous forest is today currently arable land, or replanted with coniferous forest. Vickleby is a part of what´s left from these lush groves.
The area is 47.5 hectares. It is a rich bird life in the forest. In an inventory they found 41 nesting species.
