Here's why: Some clans have an apparently superstitious fear of their names being written lest their names appear on unwelcome legal documents. Some of the upland clans have mastered the concept of law as a weapon however, and note that it is a good idea "neever tae sign a feegle contract; six inch high people write verra small print". Beware the cry, "We've got a cheap lawyer an' we're not afraid to use him!" Their swords glow blue in the presence of lawyers. This cache is located on Tomasini Point in the Tomales Bay State Park. This point is essentially the undeveloped sister peninsula of Millerton Point, both of which jut out into the middle of Tomales Bay for spectacular views. There seem to be 2 approaches, but both are unmarked, but the easier approach appears to be from a pullout off HWY 1 essentially due west of the cache at 38° 7.300'N, 122° 51.365'W. I have not gone this way but it looks far more direct on Google Earth. [update: tried this approach 7/09 and found it a bit overgrown. I cleared the path enough to pass, but a machete may still be required} This, of course, was not the approach I took with my 1.5yr and 3ry old when placing the cache. Not knowing better, we started at the larger, alternate parking area a bit north at 38° 7.671'N 122° 51.753'W. This route involves going down the obvious fire road to the shore, following the shore to the point and scrambling up the north side of the point. There is one section that involves backtracking up a creek until a you reach a crossing point and traversing a plank (see gallery pic), but it is all quite doable and a bit adventuresome. This route gives the terrain 3 stars, but it is likely only 2 stars via the other route. As a bonus, there are 2 benchmarks easily found on the point. Wear long sleeves, poison oak about. The cache itself is an ammo can at the edge of a small clearing near the end of the trail to the point. Should be a fairly easy find. Original contents include: an unactivated micro compass rose geocoin, various swag, a guide to the birds of Marin, and a benchmark geocoin in honor of the two benchmarks I encountered on the point. All in all this is a lovely hike that can be done in about an hour round-trip from the more difficult, northern approach, and likely much faster from the direct eastern approach.
