Geocache Description:

This is the first cache for Fiona, one of the 2 young stonefielders. It visits lots of interesting places in Marsden, over a 1km distance.

The coordinates given are for the first clue. There is parking on the road outside the church.

Clue 1 - Enoch Taylors tomb.
Coordinates - above
To find - Date wife Betty died = AB/CA/DEFD; aged GG
It may be worth looking round the other side & comparing this to the date of Enochs death, 14 years prior.
Two brothers, Enoch & James Taylor started as blacksmiths in Marsden but were best known for making the labour saving shearing frames for hand looms. These were the focal point for the 1812 Luddite uprising, which threatened any mill owner who installed them. If you take the route along Market place from Clue 1 to Clue 2, you'll pass Oliver St. If you look straight down, you may recognise the corner property as Aunty Wainwrights shop in Last of the Summer Wine.

Clue 2 - Marsden Mechanics Hall
Coordinates - North 53 36 CBA West 001 55 BD(E-F)
To find - Number of pillars (look on all sides) = H
The Mechanics has long been a central point in the village for education. It was built in 1861, along with the recognisable clock tower. It now hosts a wide variety of arts events, including the Jazz Festival every October.

Clue 3 - Riverhead Tap
Coordinates - North 53 36 CEE West 001 55 HF(G-A)
To find - number of steps down to the river = IJ
The Riverhead is Marsdens own microbrewery with beers named after all the local reservoirs. It has retained some decorative windows from the time when it was Johnstone's general store.

Clue 4 - Health Centre
Coordinates - North 53 36 ICC West 001 55 GJJ
Across the road is the Health Centre central to "Where the Heart is".
To find - opposite the Health Centre, on Victoria Street is the Conservative Club. It was formed in STUV where S+T-U-V = K
Marsden has also been a location for The League of Gentlemen & the films Wokenwell, An Angel in May, Blow Dry.

Final location
North 53 36 (E-G)(K-A)(J-I) West 001 55 E K H
