Iowa "5-Terrain Challenge" Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ben Gates's nemesis: I've decided to archive several of my caches in the area for three main reasons: 1) the recent, ungrateful responses from greenhorn geocachers, many of which have never placed a cache, but are more than willing to criticize the placement of someone who has; 2) the apparent lack of enjoyment that many geocachers are experiencing, as reflected in their pathetic one- to two-word logs or "TFTC" only; and 3) the apparent inability of recent geocachers to consider that there might be open hunting seasons, and that these would be terrible times to search for caches of this type.

To those of you who have genuinely enjoyed these caches, I appreciate your adventurous spirit and your fun and interesting log messages. To the rest of you, perhaps the activity of geocaching is not for you. I'm fairly certain that there are numerous other ways to spend your time that will probably be less "disappointing" for you.

Geocache Description:

As with all geocaches, those who seek this cache assume all risks. If you are not comfortable with the risks involved, then do not seek this cache.

Cache is not at the listed coordinates. The listed coordinates designate the suggested parking for the 5 terrain challenge series, the parking lot across from the Iowa Arboretum. Because the coordinates for the final keep disappearing from the caches in the series, I have decided to provide them here: N 41° 56.082 W 093° 52.305 The requirements still stand, that you find and log all of the other caches before you log this final.

Here are the nine caches that must be found, along with the challenge cache, in order to log the challenge and earn the award tag.

5-TC "1 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "1.5 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "2 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "2.5 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "3 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "3.5 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "4 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "4.5 X 5" (visit link)

5-TC "5 X 5," "The Prestige" (visit link)

Coordinates for the final "challenge - mystery" cache are split up and written in two of the caches in the series:

*** One cache on the east side of Peach Avenue has the Longitude

*** One cache on the west side of Peach Avenue has the Latitude

*** It is highly recommended that you seek caches on the east side of Peach Avenue first, then do the west side.
This will save you from backtracking to get the final "Challenge" cache. In other words, the mystery cache is on the west side of the road.

Sorry, the award pathtags are now gone.

As of 3-15-2014, the new administrator of the 4H camp asks that you check in with him before you search for the caches on the west side of Peach Avenue. Those caches on the property managed by the 4H Camp, and were placed with permission of the previous administrator. The new administrator is willing to honor this, but would like you to check in at the 4H-Camp Office before entering the land behind the Arboretum.
