Bad Kids went to Martha's Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

brodiebunch: Of all our SE Seattle caches, this has been our biggest problem child. We lost the ammo can but not the contents, then we lose a TB that we placed there that had previously in the hands of a new geocachers for over a year. For its age and the number of finds, its not worth our effort to maintain it. The park is eerily nice and has an interesting history. Thanks to all those who found it and thanks to those who tried. We still have 15 other caches in the city for you to find.

Geocache Description:

Martha Washington's Park-a little known park with a fairly big
history.

Pioneer E. A. Clark first owned the site of Martha Washington Park until John Wilson bought the land in 1867. He received the land from Asa Mercer as payment on a $1500 loan that Mercer borrowed when he was stranded in San Francisco with a boatload of the Mercer Girls (Remember the bad TV show from the early '70's, "Here come the Brides"?). Judge Everett Smith bought the land in 1889 and made it his home, calling it Morningside.

In 1920, Judge Smith sold the land to the Seattle School District who in turn built the Martha Washington School for delinquent girls. In 1957, Washington state took over the school and operated it until 1971 when it sold the land back to the city of Seattle in 1972.

The park is quite large but fairly empty, there arent any benches, playground or picnic tables. There is hand-carry boat launch ramp and numerous concrete pads, blocks, etc. where the school once stood.

The cache is a brown 15oz. cylinder with the usual items hidden near the lake. Please rehide it well but in the same place.

Its really a 1/1 cache-honest.
