This is a multi-night cache near the Nipmuck Trail in NE Connecticut.
One day, long before the white man settled this area, a Nipmuck Indian fishing party met a
Group of Narragansett hunters after a successful hunting expedition. They were proud of
their recently caught river eels and asked their Narragansett brothers to join them in a feast.
Everything initially went well. Festivities halted abruptly when the Nipmuck braves
presented their baked eels. Cooked and served undressed, the insulted Narragansetts
refused to eat them. No Narragansettwould serve an undressed eel even to an enemy.
One thing led to another; fierce fighting ensued. All the usually peaceful Nipmucks were
now engaged in a murderous orgy. All but two of the Narragansetts lay dead on the
ground at killing’s end. They escaped and returned home and the Narragansetts vowed
vengeance.
Indian belief held any guest, even an enemy, must be treated with respect while on a host’s
Native soil. Breaking this rule surely would enrage the Great Spirit. That night the braves
Witnessed slow-moving blue and yellow lights hovering over the site of the massacre.
They feared the ghosts of the slaughtered Narragansetts would haunt them forever.
Pleading for mercy, they confessed their crime to the Great Spirit with beating drums
and desperate cries. The Great Spirit was unmoved and the ghostly lights continued their
sporadic dance of retribution.
Even today some claim they occasionally hear the drums and chants of these Nipmuck
braves. During your quest, you may even see their fishing fires or the angry ghosts of
the murdered Narragansetts pursing their killers. As you walk these ancient paths
seeking your treasure, stay clear of their SHROUD OF SHADOWS! WARNING:
