Whenever we camp near the Borrego Palm Canyon trailhead, we have enjoyed hearing the frogs singing their amorous hearts out. This cache, a short 0.7 miles up the Alternate Trail, is to commemorate our vocal amphibious friends.
Update 2/25/2007
Replaced original container which had a small crack with 1.7 L clear Lock & Lock. Location is unchanged.
The Borrego Palm Canyon campground is one of our family’s favorites. The Geckos have enjoyed many visits, including quite a few for Thanksgiving dinner, camping in the upper loop. In addition to climbing the nearby hillsides and exploring the canyon, we often walk over to the trailhead pond to see the pupfish and, at night, to listen to the incredible songfests put on by the resident frogs. Along the return hike of a recent outing to find the five BPC caches, Gecko Dad placed a new cache to represent these diminutive desert residents.
The cache is an approximately 8-ounce plastic Gatorade powder mix container. It is tucked away under one of the larger rocks in an open area a little over 50 feet off the Alternate Trail. There is no bushwhacking required although you will need to navigate around a few small boulders. The original contents include logbook and pencil plus a variety of brightly colored frogs, a blue-green gecko, and a lizard bouncy ball.
