Geocache Description:

Don't you just hate it when someone hides a micro out in the boonies?
The cache is magnetic hide-a-key with only a log and a pencil.

NOTE: The cache is not at the above coordinates.

Go to the posted coordinates. You will be standing in an area that was burned in the wildfires of summer 2003. As you can see, Mother Nature is still healing from those infernos. Please do not leave the trail in the burn area; give Mother Nature some time to heal.

Standing at the above coordinates, look south across Oak Spring creek, and you will see the remains of an old 4-wheel drive trail that switchbacks its way up the side of the canyon. The cache is located at the switchback 881 feet (0.145 nautical miles) directly south of you.

The old road is overgrown and somewhat difficult to follow. It is not part of the Oak Springs trail that you are standing on. The challenge will be to figure out where to cross Oak Spring creek to get on this old road. The old road is non-existent on the north side of the creek, and there is not much road left on the south side as well. However the spot where the road once forded the creek is obvious, if you can find it. Poison oak may be unavoidable around the area where you cross the creek, so wear long pants and bring Tecnu® to wash up if you are sensitive. Don't bushwhack up the side of the canyon as it is covered in poison oak. The correct path may feel as if you are bushwhacking; but, believe me, it is much easier than trying to go straight up through the brush.

The old road continues up to Yerba Buena Fire Road. Even on my old maps this part of the road is shown as a fire break. The fire fighters who put out the blaze in 2003, bulldozed the upper two thirds of the old road turning it into a 50' wide fire break.

Parking is at N 34° 19.151 , W 118° 20.065. You will need a National Forest Adventure Pass.
