OK, it’s not a real kibbutz. If you have arrived at the
published coordinates you are standing in front of (if not on) a
nicely manicured lawn and garden belonging to the Whitehorse
Horticultural Centre. This is another of those gems in suburbia.
The centre comprises a meeting hall, a nursery in the rear that
specializes in Australian natives and a large communal garden. I am
not sure why a suburb where most people live on a quarter acre
block needs a communal garden but it is well used so the need must
be there.
The folks around here are very proud of their green thumbs and
to protect their floral assets and to prevent the caching community
from being accosted for foraging among the greenery I have placed
the cache a short walk away.
Spend a little time wandering around looking at the plaques and
things and gather a few figures for the puzzle grid below. The
numbers after the clues refer to the number of digits you need.
Within a few minutes you will be heading around the back into the
freeway reserve to retrieve a 1.5L systema container painted black
and containing a few meaningless trinkets.
I have rated the terrain 2.5 due to the walk and the long grass
but you can drive quite close to the cache. Make sure you can drive
out again. Be prepared for the grass seeds in your socks and in
summer look out for snakes (I’m beginning to think this is
not a good place for a cache … nonsense, cachers know no
fear). I have not seen a snake in here in the ten plus years I have
lived in the area but I bet there are those who have.
