Geocache Description:

This location used to be the southernmost starting point of the (statelong) Florida trail. The official starting point is now located further north at the Oasis Ranger Station. Nonetheless the entrance to this still-maintained trail section within the Big Cypress Preserve is a superb location for those wishing to see the Everglades up close and personal.

Cache is a virtual cache. Claiming credit requires a photo by the old trail sign. Note that to reach this cache you will need to drive at least ten miles off the Tamiami Trail on a dirt road (which at times can be in bad condition especially after heavy rains), along which you will see all the wildlife and fauna present in this ecosystem. Worth the trip for those who like to see the Everglades off the beaten path and without the airboat and car noise that is so ever present along Tamiami Trail. No SUV necessary, but if the road is in bad condition (look for posted sign), I recommend a vehicle with higher ground clearance than a regular car.
See web reference about this location for those who are serious hikers. Note: You do not need to hike to reach the cache, but you could from three different directions if you like. For info on the area visit (visit link) and/or (visit link)
