Geocache Description:

Take County Road 26 to Forest Road 2240. Cache is located NEAR the Lost 40 Scientific and Natural Area. It is within walking distance of the parking lot, but IT IS NOT WITHIN THE LOST 40.

The Lost 40 is one of the few remaining stands of virgin pine in Minnesota. The area was spared by early loggers due to a surveying error. Their mistake is now our treasure; enjoy this hike among the giants.

To solve this puzzle you will have to hike the relatively short Lost 40 trail system. All of the information you need can be found here. There are few coordinates to help--you need to look for the signs that have the information you need. There is no reason to leave the Lost 40 trails to solve the puzzle, and there is no physical container within the Lost 40--the final stage is outside of the system. This is an ecologically and historically significant area, and you should take care to avoid disturbing the plant life here. THE CACHE IS NOT WITHIN THE TRAIL SYSTEM, IT IS A SHORT WALK FROM THE PARKING LOT.

The coordinates of the final cache are in this format: N 47* A.897
W 94* 0B.997

A. To find 'A', you need to find out how many years before 1995 the north loop was last logged.

B. To find 'B', you need to find what percent of old pine forests remain in Minnesota. Multiply this number by 2
