In 1870 a route was surveyed from the Boston and Albany Railroad at South Spencer to the center of the village. The issue was brought to a town meeting in 1872 where the idea was voted "to pass over the article." Various other surveys were now made covering this and many other routes. It wasn't brought up again until April 7, 1877, where the article was passed over once again. After several other meetings on the same subject, the town finally, on April 3, 1878, voted to spend approximately $25,000 on building the railroad. In 1878, a 2 1/4 mile railroad was built, connecting Spencer Center with the Boston-Albany Railroad at Spencer Depot NE with the station being at South Spencer. After it was decommissioned and removed, it was tuned into Depot Trail. It now connects Chestnut Street and S. Spencer Road.

This series has a little bit of everything. Some simple, some not. With that, remember that this is just a hobby and it's not worth getting severely injured just to sign a log. I planted this series in the winter so it may be more difficult when everything fills in. As always wear your hunter orange during hunting season. Signs on the trails say no ATV's but it's obvious people don't care or don't know how to read. Becareful on some of the trails because some points have hills and I can imagine a rider not paying attention when hitting the top. I have been out 5 times since I planted this series to confirm coords and I have yet to see one however it's obvious they are around. Bushwacking will be required on some of the caches in this series but never anything over 150-160 feet.

Evander - Stole this idea after Equinedoc's last series. I once heard the saying "the best dog is the next dog" and I never understood it. Growing up I had 2 dogs. One of those dogs (Sally) got pregnant and had a litter of 8. The 4th puppy to come out was Evander. After he popped out Sally chewed the sac off from around him and accidentally bit his ear, almost completely off (Get his name?). So my sister drove Evander to the vet and they tried, unsuccessfully, to fix his ear. I had just moved out and decided I would take Evander with me. He was such a great dog. He knew everything I was thinking and was always there for me. He even cared enough to eat my tuxedo shoes on the morning of my wedding (If I only knew what he was trying to tell me at that time... I kid, I kid). Long story short, he was my heart dog. One day I was in my basement and Evander was sitting on the top of the stairs looking down at me. I noticed the right side of his face was swollen. Worried, I took him to Tufts. Evander was diagnosed with Stage IV Lymphoma. Mrs. was also pregnant with our 2nd son at the time. He put up a good fight and after 6 months it was obvious what I needed to do. Putting him down was the toughest day of my life to this point.. by far. He affected our lives so much that we named our second son, Evan. This cache is his cache.

Congratulations to MtnProf for the FTF!
