Geocache Description:

Small cache hidden on the 2°W line of longitude at the southern end of the Lickey Hills Country Park.

I decided to set a cache on the 2°W line of longitude. Researching into a suitable cache name, I discovered that there is an existing series of caches already placed along this line. This cache joins that series as the thirteenth cache in the Two Degrees West series.

Details of the whole series can be found by clicking here

The line of longitude, 2°W, is the only line of longitude that coincides exactly with one of the lines of the Ordnance Survey National Grid. It's line 400000 of the National Grid, also known as the Central Meridian, for those who like to know these things. It also runs the entire length of England: from just outside Berwick-upon-Tweed on the north-east coast to a couple of miles south-west of Swanage on the south coast - a total of 359 miles.

The author and television presenter, Nicholas Crane, whom you may have seen on BBC's 'Coast', once walked the whole line from north to south. He allowed himself a margin of just one grid square either side of the line. After the walk he wrote a very readable book called "Two Degrees West" which describes his escapades. The book is now out of print, but still available from second hand dealers.

Lickey Hills Country Park runs along the Lickey Hills to the south-west of Birmingham. It is a popular area with families and dog-walkers. There is free parking, a visitor centre and a children’s play area on Rose Hill, which is the busier end of the park and is a good mile away from the cache site. For more of a cache-and-dash from the quieter end of the park, limited roadside parking is available on Cherry Hill Road, or alternatively park at the Barnt Green Inn and walk from there.

Dense tree cover in summer might affect GPS reception.

The cache is a black cylindrical 'turtle' container, containing the usual loot, logbook and pencil. Please rehide it as well or better than you found it.
