Austell, GA. Flat terrain, sometimes muddy, approx. 50 feet up a tree. You MUST USE proper safety gear and techniques to access this cache...use a cambium saver of some sort to protect the tree.
Treeocache 2
N 33.81907 W 84.64532
In a county park less than 300 yards from the main road. Parking is, ideally, on the dirt road by the big creek (just past the center field fence). If it is not too muddy on this road (a work access road for the park), you can park under the tree.
The cache is in a black plastic cylinder, about 4 inches diameter and 6 inches tall. The contents are items that might be useful:
Contents:
magnetic key holder
marble
red scrubber pad
micro clamp
approx. 15 feet accessory cord
tennis ball
bungee cord
log sheet, pen, pencil in baggie
This is the world’s second Treeocache. It is located high up in a tree, about 45-50 feet above ground. The branch where the cache is attached leans out over the road...the cache is directly over the road. You can see the cache from the service road...look straight up.
You can't really just climb the trunk...it is almost 3 feet in diameter. Replace the cache just like you found it...with plenty of slack so you don't girdle the limb...and hanging just below the limb so squirrels do not chew on it.
I expect the finder to have a pre-existing knowledge of tree climbing techniques that are safe for the climber AND the tree. For more info, see www.treeclimbing.com
Look for a quercus phello growing right beside the large creek..you could work your way up the trunk and then work your way out to the cache...but easiest is probably straight up...assuming you know proper and safe rope climbing methods.
You might want to take a throwline up into the tree with you...if you don’t choose just the right limb you may have to traverse to another part of the tree. I set my line with a BigShot sling from the service road and went straight up the rope.
The area does flood periodically from a nearby creek..take care not to get your gear muddy. I would have a tarp to set gear on, just in case.
Obviously, this cache is not for everyone.
