Geocache Description:

NOTE: Location has changed been changed to the Large Pavilion.

For those that will be in town early, this event is separate from GeoWoodstock IV, but will be used as the Friday meet and greet here in Cedar Hill State Park, at the small pavilion. The event will start about 4pm and last until dark. Stay tuned to this page or the project website for updates.

We're hoping that this occasion will be somewhat unique in your event experiences. Close to 200 (or more) regular sized caches will be given out to those who attend as part of a larger project.

One Degree of Separation is a project that has been taking shape and GROWING for nearly 3 years. It's a variation of the "Small World" concept that was proposed in the early 20th century. Many people are familiar with the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game, but few know just how far back the idea goes.

This event will be a no frills (other than the free cache giveaway) BYO/Potluck to remember the real reason we have gathered from the far corners of these United States and beyond. BECAUSE WE'RE GEOCACHERS DAMMIT! That makes us family!

To understand the next part of the inspiration to hold this event, please click the link below the event title. Participation in this part of the event is optional.

This event will be the culmination of my fiendish plot to massively Snooganize the caches of of the world (Nope 'Ol Snoog hasn't flipped. There's a method to my madness.) AND to further my goal to ensure that no one in geocaching that has ever logged even ONE CACHE will go beyond the Third Degree of Separation from the caches in this project.

Each regular cache that is given away (200-250, or possibly more) will contain a log, a pencil, and at least 20-50, or more, log only, micro "seed caches" as part of the "One Degree of Separation Project." When the regular caches have all been handed out, I will have some extra micro caches for the rest of the attendees. No one will leave empty handed if I can help it. My main concern is that the regular (seed pod) caches be placed 20 miles, or more, (ATCF: As the crow flies.) apart to prevent over-saturation of ODS caches in the local geocaching continuums.

As with any other Seed Cache, there will be a few guidelines for titling the caches as they are placed as part of the project. Each seed pod given out will come with a unique adoption name that the hider will be given to hide the cache. Most of these names pertain to geocachers who in some way made this event possible. (I.E. Quite a few will be named for ParkerPlus from whom 10K of the 12K+ micros were donated.) Each "seed" should be named "(hider's name): One Degree of Separation or for those with long geocaching handles "(hider's name): ODS" (I.E. If CarleenP finds any ODS seed pod and takes a seed cache. She would name her cache, "CarleenP: One degree of Separation" OR "CarleenP: ODS") The reason for reversing the titles of the seed caches from the seed pods is to minimize confusion using the short names feature of GSAK or Spinner.

In short, EVERYONE WHO PATRICIPATES WILL GET THEIR NAME ON A CACHE IN THIS GEO-HISTORICAL PROJECT!

A project of this size requires a whole lot of help. I would firstly like to thank my beloved Snoogstress (Mynda aka Salmongirlhooked) for being so understanding of the time and effort that I have devoted to this project.

Gathering material:

To ParkerPlus (Neal) goes the biggest hand for gathering over 10,000 micro caches of the 12,100+ micros to be distributed in this project. Tim Barroso of Getronics (TimBar) donated the bulk of the seed pod containers over the last 2 years.

Special thanks goes to CherokeeCachers (Scott & Michelle) who donated the first thousand micro containers back in August of 2003 to launch this wild idea that I had been discussing at events since May of 2003.

Many more names are sure to be added to this list in the coming weeks as this project takes its desired form with the help of my second family: The Southeast Texas Geocachers.

Thanks to 9Key & The Texas Geocaching Association for already having the small pavilion reserved so we could hold this event.

Thanks to: Geekqualizer & Texas Poohbear, UsMorrows, TerraTrekkers, Joyrose & Hubby Bull, Love2Fly, gsGuru, BillyH & Family, TxSecsy, ljtxhiker, Indianpoint, and many, many more to be added later..

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, SO STAY TUNED TO THIS PAGE FOR UPDATES AND PROGRESS REPORTS....
