A Crossed Stick Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Rat: Regretfully, this one has to go. It's gone missing three times and been moved twice. The area is not very conducive to future hides now. You can still work the puzzle if you like.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates but is within 2 miles. The cache is accessible from the trail without encountering poison oak, but there is some very nearby so take care. Limited to daylight hours.

This puzzle is a
cryptic acrostic of the type made popular in The Saturday Review by Doris Nash Wortman, Barry Tunick and Thomas Middleton, among others. If you've never done one, I suggest you read up on them before trying this one. They look harder than they are. Each of the 22 clues is a little puzzle of its own with the concomitant hair-pulling and eventual "Aha" moment. For those used to crosswords, note that the right edge of the grid does not signify the end of a word. The black squares mark all the empty spaces. When you solve the message in the grid you will have the information needed to find the cache. I have no idea how difficult this will be for most of you, so I am rating it a 4.5 to start, but I may modify that after I see how things go. For my ESL friends, my apologies, as I think this one may be especially hard for you, but I thought that about K3 Gang and PhilippeGPS, for whom English was his 3rd language, was the FTF.

The cache been moved due to partial demolition of the original site. The new location is about 30 feet to the northwest. Add .004 to both the north and west minutes that are given in the puzzle solution. The site description in the puzzle solution is only partially accurate. To assist in finding I have scratched the wood and cut a small notch just above the cache location. Be sure to cover the cache well when replacing.
