Don't Fence Me In ! Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Kiama Krew: Sorry folks, I've had to retire this one.

When we placed it in its original position it was behind a huge bush and away from prying eyes - but the bush died the position became too exposed. So we moved it away from the rock wall to a nearby bush in an open grassy area, not far from a beautiful bower bird nest ('bower').

But as I went to change the reported 'wet and soggy' log book today the geocache wasn't where we hid it. The site was covered in pesky lantana bushes waiting to scratch me to pieces. Where did this nasty jungle come from??

So I reviewed the recent logs and noted mention of new coordinates. Hmmm, someone had relocated it, about 10 m away from my more secluded but now overgrown location. But I don't like where it is now - it's way too exposed to muggles visiting the picnic area and in plain sight of the nearby houses. As the only secure place away from muggles is back in amongst the surrounding nasty lantana, I'd prefer to retire this very popular geocache of ours and admit that it has run its course. We're pleased it has brought joy to over 425 geocachers over the years.

Geocache Description:

This site offers great views of the Tasman Sea, Bombo headland and even the local cemetery. You can drive to within 30 m and the walk is easy (easier than the drive up!). [Tip: stick to the bitumen as long as you can, don't scramble up the slope from the cemetery.]

The rocky corral was once used to hold horses while the riders walked down to their work in the local basalt quarries on the Bombo headland. The picnic spot was rejuvinated by the local volunteer service club and not many locals know of it.

The cache is NOT in, under or part of the stone walls - so please DO NOT TOUCH THE WALLS (fines apply).

UPDATE 12.10.13 - the cache has been relocated not too far away after another muggling. Please take care not to disturb the bower (ground nest) nearby. Note the blue trinkets the Satin Bower Bird collects and places near his stick bower to attract females.

UPDATE 2012: The original hiding spot was muggled and the cache went missing in July 2012 and when I was looking about for a good spot to hide the replacement geocahe, guess I what I found under a dense bush about 20 m away ?.... the original geocache ! So its back ! - but with new co-ords. Have fun.
