A day in July, we walked past the soccer arena and headed up the
trail to do some exploring. First we found a
small birdhouse.
Then we found an impressive trailmarker, fortelling of an
ancient path:
There is at least one pick nick table along the path.
Shortly after that, we found
wooden signs left both in the sea and high up in the air.
Perhaps they warn boats of dangers near the coastline?
We were not sure if we could easily traverse the sea, but when
we reached it we found
Holme Broa (in dialect, but translates to Islet Bridge). Having
easily reached Västra Holmen (Western Islet) we simply had to
continue onwards. There we found Holmedammet:
Finally we found the gate to Östra Holmen (Eastern Islet) and we
decided to rest here. It is a place usually harboring sheep and
similar livestock, but for the next few years it is a no-livestock
zone to allow the vegetation to recover from over-zealous sheep
which have eaten too much.
The cache? it is on the West Islet, a short distance from
Holmedammet, close to the path. GPS Avaraged, 2 GPS averaging 100%
confidence samples.
Allemansrätten do apply. I met a woman walking her dog here,
but do consider that this place is a place for seabird's R&R; I
wouldn't recommend bringing along any dog unless you are sure it
won't scare the birds.
Public transportation (ferry): www.vasttrafik.se, search for
transportation from Saltholmen to Donsö. You can find toilets,
pizza, shops, ice cream, etc etc (even an ATM!) near the harbor
where the ferry stops.
Svenska: Härlig vandring längs en vacker vandringsled ut mot Västra
och Östra Holmen. Allemansrätten gäller men visa stor hänsyn då det
är en sjö där många sjöfåglar tycker om att vila ostörda. Man är
ganska "off" här, men stöter på någon enstaka vandrare här.
Picknick bord förekommer *sparsamt* längs leden, gillar du bord så
passa på när du ser ett - det kan vara ditt sista.
