Ammo can hidden in a huge boulder field. Depending on how you
approach and where you park, it can be less than 500 feet from the
car. People say it is not a 1.5 terrain, so I am upping it to a 2.
BUT if you park in the right place, it is a 1 to 1.5 max.
This cache continues to be stolen! We replaced it again today
(6/28/06).
Watch your step when walking around the area as the decomposed
granite is very crumbly like granola and is similar to marbles when
you step on it on inclines.
While you are here make sure to check out the house nearby built
around a boulder. The boulder is half in the house and half out of
the house. It is a vacation rental so it is empty a lot but be
aware that people may be staying there so respect their privacy. It
is a really cool house!
This cache is part of a Series
We have seen Series caches with lots of difficult caches making up
the series that take multiple days and a lot of moving around to
complete. We wanted to make a series for travelers visiting Lake
Tahoe (and locals!), especially with kids in mind. We will call
ours a "Mini Series" since it is only 4 caches total, all close to
each other and the whole series can be done in one afternoon. Our
kids hid all the caches (with our help) so your kids should love
the spots.
The series of caches are all located at or near local "bouldering"
areas. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing on boulders instead of
cliffs, with no need for ropes, harnesses and other gear. Just
climbing shoes, a chalkbag and a crashpad.
When visiting these areas please respect the climbers, animals and
nature that you may encounter. These places are very special to us
and many people would like to keep them secret so please tread
lightly and enjoy the cool "secret" spots! We climb at all of these
areas often so don't be surprised if you are being watched while
looking for the caches!
