Geocache Description:

This monument is dedicated to Aggeliki Sotiriou Philimon, a woman fighter during the EOKA uprising of 1955-1959. The marble plaque at the front of her memorial says: Aggeliki Sotiriou Philimon During the harsh times of our country’s liberating fight of 1955-59 You paid your debt to the full and showed us the right way May your memory be eternal, eternal may your example be Angeliki owned a kafeneio (coffee shop) in the nearby village of Kivides (now refurbished and located directly next to the Petrolina petrol station) and would provide sustenance and a communications link for the freedom fighters. Our neighbour remembers her, and she is revered by many as evidenced by the plaque to the rear of the monument, which states that the monument was funded by the Women’s arm of one of the leading political parties. The monument was unveiled by a former President of Cyprus, Spyros Kyprianou, in 1990. Please respect your surroundings when searching for the cache, which is not hidden within the fenced area.
