Geocache Description:

A little out of the way, but well worth a visit to the National Arboretum.

This is a beautiful garden in the nation’s capital. I was surprised to learn that it is not, in fact, an NPS park (which makes up most of the cacheable land in DC), but rather run by the USDA. Not many make the trip out here, but this little corner of DC, abutting the District’s “other” river (the Anacostia), is worth the trip. Along with visiting the cache itself, make sure to stop by the impressive old Capital Columns (see the picture); the bonsai exhibition and the National Grove of State Trees are pretty interesting too.

Arboretum grounds are open every day of the year except December 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Administration Building is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The National Bonsai and Penjing Museum hours are 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily. Admission to the Arboretum is free.
