The Pigeon River Wetlands. Be careful, the path you are on may end in the middle of a swamp.
This is an 4-stage multi-cache. 2 of the stages are small cammo bags with a laminated slip inside with the coordinates for the next stage. One stage is naturally camouflaged and the final is a 30 cal ammo can. Please put every stage back exactly how you found it, with any cover or camouflage the way it was when you got there.
Total distance to all stages and back to the parking area is at least 1.5 miles. Recommended parking is the wayside at N 43 47.240, W 87 43 707. This parking area is available from 6am to 10pm daily.
This area is undeveloped and overgrown. There are large areas of wetlands (Watch your step!) with some forested areas. It's honey-combed with trails: some are wide and well-established, while others are just deer trails. All the stages of the cache are placed near trails; bushwhacking isn't recommended since it's very easy to find yourself knee deep in swap water or thick mud. This is a very dog-friendly area, so feel free to bring Fido. You may encounter other dog owners, people fishing, or wayward teenagers, but most of the time the park is pretty quiet.
The is a very pretty area with abundant wildlife. The river attracts ducks and geese and is full of fish. There are deer in the forests. There are turtles and snakes and I've seen blue herons and muskrats. Of course, since it's mostly wetlands, you'll also encounter millions of the state bird of Wisconsin, the mosquito. So I highly recommend repellent in the late spring, summer, and fall. Good luck.
Seasonal Information:
Winter: Sometimes they close the parking area for the winter. Street parking is okay. The cache stages will become very hard to find with any snow cover. Also, the river in the spring or after a thaw it can be dangerously fast and deep. I don't recommend walking on it or the swampy areas of the park, so do so at your own risk. You do not have to walk on the river or in the swampy areas to reach any stage of this cache. Thanks, and be safe!
Spring: The park is often flooded during spring with large muddy areas and small streams crossing the trails. Expect to get muddy!
Late Summer/Fall: The trails get pretty overgrown this time of year. Expect to do some bushwhacking through parts. There are also stinging nettles in places off the trails.
