Hohenadel Brewery was active from 1875 to 1953, and their
red-brick brewery at the corner of Conrad Street and Indian Queen
Lane stood derelict, though occupied by underground artists, until
it was demolished in 1999.
The site became a community effort Brewery Garden, which
recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Hohenadel brewed a variety of beers including Indian Queen Ale,
and their beer trays, mats, bottles and cans are very collectible
today.
Their quirkish slogan, "When the 2nd tastes as good as the
first, it's Hohenadel Alt Pilsener beer!" is memorable if not
exactly inspiring.
Please do not enter the garden unless invited. The cache is NOT
IN THE GARDEN and contains only a log; bring your own pencil.
*** UPDATE 1/23/10 *** The garden is no more! Property was, so I am
told, sold to a developer a couple of years ago. Given today's
economics when and if it will be developed is still to be seen.
