By The Elfin Moon Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

GEO.JOE: It sounds like there are way too many problems with this cache. I am planning to find it a new home this winter that has better parking options.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the given coordinates. These coordinates are the staring place of your quest. Your path will travel an ascending ridge overlooking the shore of KY Lake with great views.

What is the Elfin Moon? The Elfin Moon is the Dark of the Moon. These are the darkest nights of the moon cycle and it is during this phase of the moon that elves are most active, because they are less likely to be discovered. Elves use holes in the earth, hollow trees and hollow logs to move from their realm to ours. Elves use natural features to navigate and will mark trails with Elfin Stones to assist them in navigating. Elfin Stones are rocks with pictures drawn on them, much like Petroglyphs or Hieroglyphs. These stones will indicate the location of a portal, shelter, food, another elfin stone and even hidden treasure.

You will be using Elfin Stones to assist you in locating the hidden trail to a portal and also to a hidden treasure. Each of the elfin stones will have the depiction of a natural feature painted on it (there is a picture of an Elfin Stone in the gallery). At the given coordinates you will need to locate a tree and your first Elfin Stone will be at the base of it (A drawing of the tree is located in the gallery). Your challenge is to locate the natural feature depicted on the stone and make your way to the feature to see if it holds another clue or the treasure

Elves have keen eyesight and can see as well at night as we can during the day. The nights just proceeding and just following an Elfin Moon are the times that you will be most likely to see an elf. Unfortunately due to our limited ability to see at night, it is unlikely that you will run into one. Do be cautious if you see an elf. Elves are quite solitary and do not like encounters with humans. If they feel challenged or threatened, they are known to retaliate. Elves are said to be either your greatest ally or your fiercest enemy.

After finding the cache, you can continue on to the top of the hill to see what is left of an old hotel. If you continue along the ridge heading east from the hotel, you will also find a lonely paved road which makes for a nice scenic walk with views of the hollows below. Continue east on an old gravel road where the paved road turns, and you will find an old home foundation with the chimney still standing.
