Mini-history multi stop trail VIRTUAL cache in Southport.
VIRTUAL multi-stop cache.
Visit several monuments to come up with lat and long of final location.
33 EE.CAC , 78 AA.BAD . Substitute numbers for letters after following the clues below.
Clue #1 - A is fifth digit at top of object in the initial location.
Clue #2 - To find second monument add .002 to the initial latitude and .025 to initial longitude. B is the decade of the placing of the monument at this location.
Clues #3 & #4 - To find third monument add .025 to the initial lat and subtract .040 from the initial long. C is King George's number. D is the number of cannon listed minus 20.
Clue #5 - To find the fourth monument add .047 to the initial lat and subtract .073 from the initial long. E is the erection year of the monument minus 1933.
Now you have the co-ordinates of the final location. It is a pleasant walk from the waterfront. Find the founding father of Southport (Smithville) behind the sign and email me the dates he was governor of North Carolina.
The original clues have been changed slightly to avoid heaping error upon error when there is poor satellite geometry. Several geocachers have had problems and I believe this is due to their not having the GPS set to Degrees and decimal minutes (DD MM.MMM). Please adjust your GPS to show DD MM.MMM or you may end up in the middle of the Cape Fear River.
