Geocache Description:

TRIGO invites you to be a part of the Cache-in, Trash-out park cleanup events to be held across the country on April 17th! The event will begin at 9:00AM. A logbook will be on site for all visitors to sign. Bring your camera to capture the memories!

About TRIGO:
TRIGO, the Three Rivers Informal Geocaching Organization, is a group of geocachers that gather to discuss all things geocaching in the greater Pittsburgh area. The diversity of backgrounds and interests in our group is only eclipsed by our diversity of opinions on current issues. There is one thing that we vehemently agree on however: Cache In, Trash Out - CITO. Keeping our parks clean is not just a good idea, it is a duty of all responsible geocachers. Our hope in bringing this event to you is that everyone will see how bad a park can become with neglect, and how beautiful it can be with the help of volunteers. Hopefully, this event will encourage all attendees to Cache In and Trash Out on all of their geocaching adventures.

The Park:
Public Works Chief Edward M. Bigelow developed Highland Park after 1889 as one of the crowning successes of his program to establish a network of parks and connecting boulevards in the East End of the city. Highland Park is located next to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. The park boasts amenities such as swimming pools, numerous picnic groves, volleyball and tennis courts, and several large playgrounds.

The Cleanup Effort:
A volunteer coordinator or park foreman will be on hand to oversea the cleanup effort. Tasks will include picking up trash, removing excess brush and foilage, general trail maintenance, and other random tasks as the foreman sees fit. We will spend approximately 2 to 3 hours in our cleanup effort. Tools will be provided by the foreman along with gloves, trash bags, and trash hauling. Be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty!

The Picnic:
Lunch will start at around 12:30 and will continue until everyone has been fed. Since we aren't sure how long our cleanup efforts will take, we'll keep everything running for awhile. The picnic will happen at the Maple Grove Pavilion next to the "Super Playground" (indicated by the cache coordinates). There will be a grill, so any meat that shows up can be cooked. Lunch will be pot luck style but I ask that people sign up to bring certain items from the list below as well as a covered dish. This way we don't have 30 trays of brownies. ;) I will supply plates, napkins, and utensils. If you have a cooler, please let me know if you can bring it filled with ice to keep the soda cold. Also, if you have a large beverage container, like a water tank of some sort, it would be nice to have one of those for us to have water.

The GC Merchandise:
I will be making a mass order from the geocaching store. If anyone wants any of the items listed on the site, please indicate so. The latest I can place the order is April 1, so don't wait around. Also, if you order something, please make payment at the event or contact me to send payment prior to the event. Otherwise, I'll be selling the stuff at the event or eating the cost of the item.

The Ammo Can Store:
Quest Master has been gracious enough to make a run for ammo cans for all those that are interested. Prices are $3 for a 30 caliber can and $5 for a 50 caliber can. Please note how many of each you would like in your attendance post.

The Caching:
The park currently has one active geocache, Kidscience Consolation. This cache was placed to appease the locals whilst the other 4 KidScience caches were removed until a park cleanup could be performed. We will be placing 3 other temporary caches for the festivities. If anyone would like to help in the planning, placing, and stocking of these caches, please let me know. There are over 300 caches within 50 miles of Pittsburgh, PA. There is no shortage of caching for those of you coming from a considerable distance.

The Travel Bug Race:
Bring your travel bugs to the event and send them on their way to San Francisco for the beginning of our cross country travel bug race! I'm going to San Francisco on April 19-23 and I will drop these bugs off in a single cache in the SF area. We will have tags to attach to your travel bug so that they can be identified as a "racing bug". Starting point will be a currently unknown cache in SF and the finish line will be any of the KidScience caches in Highland Park.

The Video:
We will have a video camera on hand as well as several digital cameras in hopes of recording some commentary from our attendees. We'll make a video afterward and make it available in one way or another to the world at large. TRIGO Films Presents... Pittsburgh CITO 2004!!

The Sister CITO Event:
Be sure to visit Left Nothing; Took Another Dump just a week after this one! Another chance to clean up and help support the parks in Pennsylvania!
