You will need to use parking co-ords as there is very limited parking in the vicinity of the cache site. This is a nano cache, you will have to use stealth tactics here as it can be very busy.
The beautiful old town of Marazion is a popular destination and the name is believed to be derived from the old Cornish Marghaisewe meaning Thursday market. This quaint town claims to be one of the oldest in Britain and was known as Ictis by the Romans. It is said that on Marazion Green, a ghost of lady in white is seen to jump on a horse behind a horseman and gallop as far as Red River. This is where Sir John Arundell, Sheriff of Cornwall was killed whilst leading an attack on St Michaels Mount in 1471, after the Mount had been seized by the Earl of Oxford. Apparently, Sir John’s death was no surprise as he had been cursed by a shepherd who claimed to have been wrongfully imprisoned.
On the Penzance side of the town is a large reed bed, Marazion Marsh which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The area is host to a wild variety of animal, bird and plant life. The RSPB reserve here is very popular and twice a year thousands of starlings roost here, making quite a spectacle as the sun goes down.
Nearby, St Michael’s Mount is accessible on foot at low tide and at other times by ferry.
