The Den Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

briansnat: Unable to obtain a permit for this one. It might take me a while to retrieve this container, because it's one of my more remote caches. If anybody is in the area, feel free to pick it up and you can keep the container as my thanks. I believe it's an ammo box. I will note when it is actually removed here.

Geocache Description:

The cache is in an interesting rock formation along what once was part of the Hoeferlin Trail. You can still see the old yellow blazes on some trees. The Hoeferlin once extended into NY, but now ends at Bear Swamp Lake for reasons that are obvious when you reach this section.

Skigirl and I passed this rock formation while hiking and thought that it might have served as an Indian rock shelter at one time. I have seen nothing documenting this, but rock formations like this one were often used by ancient hunters for shelter.
