Geocache Description:

This cache is located on a hillock overlooking fields and the odd farm animal. Most of the vegetation on the hillock seems to be prickly in one way or another (Gorse, Thorn trees etc), so short trousers are probably a bad idea! Long breeks are really a must in Summer when the vegetation is high. All approaches to the hillock are good - just round the hillock its self you will need to chose your route with care.

Contents of cache when deposited: Notepad, pencil, pen, sun glasses (Hah!), key ring, padlock, ice cube, batteries, pencil sharpner, crocodile (toy), ball, shark.

There are various approaches to this cache.

This northern approach is best if you need to find somewhere to park. You'll find somewhere on the main road or on a side street near NT 01837 76899: The single track road from NT 01837 76899 is tarmacced all the way to the farm (Parkley Place) at the top of the hill (the road is a right of way through the farm buildings).

This southern approach is a lovely walk, but parking may be a problem if you go by car: The path to the farm from Cauldhame (NT 01267 75379) looks good enough on the map, but is infact a grass track! Negotiable if you drive a tractor, but otherwise don't even think about it!

Western approach: good starting place for walkers, but you'll have to leave your car down the road in one of the residential streets at the edge of Linlithgow about half a mile away. Please don't drive from NT 00517 75904 to Parkley Craigs - This is marked as a private path, and while there's no objection to walkers going along there, I foresee that passing cars would be unwelcome, and would spoil the route for walkers. Walk eastwards from NT 00517 75904 to Parkley Craigs. From here, a path leads along the northern edge of the horses field / stables as a shortcut to the hillock.

Once at the hillock, you'll need to get up on top of it. Approach from the north, as the gorse is too thick on the other sides. From the path on the east of the hillock, turn to face west, and walk up the edge of the fence with the fence and a field of horses on your right, and the hillock on your left. You'll find a few gaps in the gorse where you can get up on top of the hillock without getting prickled.
