Geocache Description:

Hike to Frary Peak on Antelope Island

When:  June 21st, 2014 (That is a Saturday)

Time:  6:00 - 6:30 at the main entrance for car pooling. 7:00ish at the trailhead parking lot.

Duration:  Trail is 3.25 miles one-way so however long you take to hike up and then back down.

Bossmanron and I have been wanting to make this hike for awhile now so we finally made time and decided to make it an event for others to come and enjoy the beauties of this area.    We will be meeting at the coordinates at 6:00 a.m. to allow anyone that wants to car pool and then leaving at 6:30 sharp.  If you car pool you will need to stay with your driver or make arrangements to make it back to the parking lot.

Here are the coordinates for the parking lot at the trailhead: N 40 59' 38.17" W 112 12' 09.00"

Antelope State Park is a FEE area.  If you don't have a state parks pass AND a causeway pass there is an associated fee.  You are responsible for your own fee's to the island if you are not with someone that has a pass!

The Trail is 3.25 miles long one way from the Trailhead.  I will probably take longer than most to get there!

Some things you should consider for this hike:

  • Water - Bring enough to get you to the peak and back as there is not any potable water at the trailhead or on the trail.
  • Food - I won't mind if you bring some for me also!
  • No-See-Um's - they may or may not be out in force at this time and bug repellent does not work.  Fine netting is the best solution.
  • Appropriate Clothing and Shoes - check the weather forecast and dress appropriately.
  • Biological Functions - there are NO facilities at the trailhead or on the trail so be prepared to handle your waste appropriately.
  • Cell Phone Coverage is spotty on the Island at best so if you use a cell phone assisted gps your accuracy probably will not be the best.
  • First-Aide Kit - Just in Case

I will take a photo of whoever is there when I make it to the peak AND will have my event book to sign or stamp if you are so inclined.

Hope to see you there!!!!
