Geocache Description:

The cache is located on the very edge of the heart of the bog. It is a large open area. The cache is somewhat secured in a small spruce, about 5 feet up. It is attached to the tree by a bright red string. There is a small, about 10’ “clearing” near the cache and you can see a small, about 20’ pine tree in front of you out in the bog. No one should approach the cache from across the open area of the bog. Most of the terrain is relatively flat

The cache is in an ammo box that is attached ti a small spruce with a red string. If it falls out of the tree it can’t go far. The cache contains: Lips the fish teenie weenie beanie baby, 1996 Atlanta Olympics official pin, Mack truck pin, Aladdin Genie top, Mardi Gras medal, P-38 can opener and a coke nail clipper. The bog is a wild place almost entirely surrounded by dense cedar swamp that becomes almost entirely stunted spruce near the heart. This is not a place to bring small children. In the spring and early summer the bugs will be more than most people can take. You may see moose as well as other animals. You will get wet feet. We do all our navigation using NAD27 Conus and UTM. We converted this information to WGS 84 and Lat. Long for this game. We use UTM because it allows us to plot locations on USGS maps much more quickly and accurately. The cache is located at UTM 19 T 0489756 and 4956550 with an approach point marked with 3 black and pink surveyor’s tapes on a 3” diameter tree at UTM 19 T 0489498 and 4956894. This point is just outside of the cedar swamp. You would do yourself a service to plot the location and do some planning before heading out. Give yourself enough time and try not to be in the swamp after dark. There are some old skidder roads and some trails. 4 wheeled vehicle roads come reasonably near the cache, please respect these roads they are maintained by the people with homes and camps on them, not the town. This is especially true during mud season. Please, do not go poking around the camps. We have been walking the woods in this area for 17 years and have never had any problems. Have fun and good luck. We have updated the WGS 84 coordinates. They were derived by changing the coordinates to those provided by other cachers who have been out to the site.
