Geocache Description:

You are looking for an ammo box. How low can you go?

The Doctor's House was built in 1902 by Dr. James Jones Covington and wife, Nannie Scoggins Covington. Dr. Covington graduated from Vanderbilt in1897 and soon opened his medical practice in Cross Plains. He became a highly respected member of the community maintaining his medical office until his death in 1911. Upon Mrs. Covington's death in 1913 the house was sold to Dr. Covington's associate Dr. James Thomas. Dr. Thomas continued the medical practice. The Thomas family raised three children in the house. Upon Dr. Thomas' death in 1935 the house passed to his wife and son, Burgess Thomas. Burgess was a pharmacist and owner of Thomas Drugs. He passed away in the 1970s but the drug store is still a centerpiece of the community. Stop in and visit the original soda fountain.
The Cross Plains Heritage Society bought the house to use as a museum and community meeting place. The restored house opened in May 2002 and is presently open for visitors on Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 3 pm.
