A pint and a quiz in one of Manchesters more unique pubs.
A Grade II Listed building.
We will be in the back room next
to the Brewery
Don't worry the quiz will only be short and shouldn't interfere
with your drinking too much (It will be a print out to fill in at
your leisure with a Geocoin for a prize).
Why unique? How many pubs do you know where the main rooms built on
a slope that follows the angle of the street outside. Don't worry
the bar is at the bottom of the slope. The floor is a tile mosaic
and should keep you entertained all by itself. The walls and
vaulted barrel ceiling are tile and glazed brick; at the top of the
wall in tiile are the words whiskies, brandies, gins, wines and
cordials.
There is a beer garden though at this time of year I doubt it will
get much use.
The pub has its own 5 barrel brewery (viewable from the bottom
room) and from my flakey memory I seem to recall it turns out about
20 barrels a week. At the bar there are ten real ales on draught
plus lagers and ciders.
Vegetarian and not been able to drink real beer for a while?
not a problem, the pubs home produced beer is both vegan and
organic
Food, get in early, they
stop serving food at 19:45 (quarter to eight) . Go down to look at
the brewery and you will find you also see straight into the
open kitchen so you can see your food being prepared.
Rob (the manager) has asked that anyone wanting food rings and lets
them know in advance on 0161 832 5914.
Children, only till 9pm and only in the back room away from the
bar please.

I am sure you can work it out yourself, though parking very near
the pub is limited. Though do you really want to drive to a pub
with good food and ale?
