Geocache Description:

Meet between 6-6:30pm at the posted coordinates. At 6:30pm, those who wish can go for an evening bike ride along the famous Burke-Gilman Trail.

The 12th in a series of events along the many mostly flat, mostly paved biking/walking trails in the Seattle area.  For August, we will take a weekday after-work ride along the Burke-Gilman Trail from Fremont to the University District, with a side trip through wooded Ravenna Park.

Per geocaching.com event guidelines, the actual 'event' is the meet-up from 6-6:30pm at the posted coordinates, which is near the picnic tables under the Aurora Bridge (Do not look for anyone up on the high bridge - no one will be there except a lot of speeding traffic) . You can just sign the log and chat, but if you have a bike and an hour or two, why not join us for a ride on one Seattle's premier bike trails?

This event is outdoors, but I will only cancel this event if the weather is terrible: heavy rain, lightning/thunder, snow or ice. Bring a waterproof layer if it might rain.  Note for non-locals:  the weather is likely to be just fine.

Information for the ride: We will ride east on the trail to the University of Washington, at which point I'll lead you along some gravel paths through the Union Bay wildlife sanctuary, then head north to the Ravenna Park trail.  There will be some on-street riding along quiet roads, as well as some gravel/dirt paths.  All but the most skinny bike tires should have no problem.  The route is mostly flat and car-free, and the total distance is about 9.5 miles. If I were to rate this as a geocaching experience, I'd call it 2/2. Route map is here, but I may have to make some minor changes due to construction: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6607470

Sunset on the date of the ride is 8:27pm. It's likely this ride will finish after 8:30, so be sure to bring along a head- and taillight.

If you choose to ride, please show up well before 6:30 so we can leave on time. Check your brakes and air beforehand.  If you wish to rent a bike, see my note on July 28.

Participants in the optional bicycle ride hold harmless the cache owner/event organizer and assume all risks and responsibilties involved in riding a bicycle on trails and streets. Wear a helmet, dress in layers, and bring a spare tube.

If you have any suggestions/requests for trails to visit on future events, feel free to mention them in your log.
