2010 WGA Appleton CITO and Potluck - WGA Regional Event

WHERE: Peabody Park, Appleton, WI
DATE: Saturday, April 24th, 2010
TIME: 9:00 a.m. See the schedule of events below.
COST: Free

Time for a cleanup! The Wisconsin Geocaching Association (WGA) is proud to sponsor Appleton's 4th Annual CITO Geocaching event! (What is CITO?) This regional event will be held April 24th at the Peabody Park Pavilion in Appleton and we will clean Peabody and some other nearby parks. Prizes and supplies have been donated by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association.

The fun will begin at the pavilion (see posted coords) at 9:00am Saturday morning with coffee and donuts provided and a chance to pick up the information & supplies for the cleanup, strategize about team deployment, drop off lunch items, meet other cachers, etc. There is plenty of street-side parking near the pavilion and it is handicapped accessible. The Appleton Parks Department has given us free use of the pavilion and access to the restrooms.

Schedule:

  • 9:00 am - Gather for coffee and donuts at base camp (at the posted coordinates). Plan your route, get some local caching advice, etc.
  • After that - CITO! Base camp will remain open for water and supplies. Bottled water will be provided to take with you on the trail.
  • Noon - regroup at base camp for a group picture, picnic lunch, swap stories, coins, bugs, whatever.
  • 1:00 pm - Door prizes
  • 3:00 pm - Dismissed

What to bring:
  • GPS
  • Your camera for taking photos of your day and posting them to the cache page.
  • Gloves (only if you'd like to have your own, otherwise gloves will be provided)
  • Walking stick or poking apparatus. One with a nail on the end is nice for trash pickup.
  • Safety vest for visibility and safety glasses if you desire
  • Coins / Bugs to trade
  • Shoes / boots that can get muddy
  • A friend that wants to learn about geocaching, having fun, cleaning up parks, meeting new people, etc.
  • Your own choice of Drinks for lunch. Alcohol will not be allowed at the pavilion. Bottled water will be available.
  • Food for lunch.
  • A last name potluck strategy will be used:

LAST NAME A-H: desserts or sweets
LAST NAME I-P: salad, fruit, and/or vegetables
LAST NAME Q-Z: chips, crackers or other crunchies! (cheeto's?)

Hot Dogs, Buns, & condiments will be provided for all who participate in the CITO. Plates, napkins, plastic utensils, and cups will also be provided.

Please post a cache note or use the "will attend" to indicate what type of dish you are bringing to pass so we can all balance it out. First come, first choose!

Don't forget to add this cache page to your watchlist to keep up to date on who's coming and any relevant notes that are posted.
