This is the first of a group of caches dedicated to the theme
"Renewable Energy" to which our scientist, known as Padre Himalaia,
came with great emphasis by himself having worked on this
issue.
Padre Himalaia, was known for his Pirelióforo, or solar machine,
which in 1904 won the grand prize in the St. Louis exhibition in
U.S.A.
It is precisely by Pirelióforo, for his research on the use of
solar energy through fotopilhas and phototherapy that we was
motivated throughout their life as therapist. If the oil model
wasn’t on its ascent and determination throughout the industrial
process, probably at this time we already had a advanced technology
oriented in solar energy, for which, global warming wasn’t our
concerns at present.
Manuel Antonio Gomes (1868 to 1933), was born in Santiago de
Cenfude, county of Arcos de Valdevez, son of Portuguese farmers,
was a humble guy and as was typical at the time chosen the
priesthood, studying in the seminary of Braga. Man of great
stature, has been known to his friends by Padre Himalaia (Father
Himalaya) because of his high as the Himalayas. After his stay in
Paris, where he studied physics with the physical Berthelot, gave
him knowledge for the construction of a system for high
temperatures through the application of solar energy. In its second
prototype achieve the temperature of 1100 ° C and later in Lisbon
reached 2000 ° C merging a huge block of basalt. This honorable,
not left to stay here, which for the time and the technology was
already something superb and arrived at the International
Exhibition of St. Louis of 1904 with the incredible temperature of
3500 ° C thus merge any material like rock or metal with his
Pirelióforo!
Nearly a century after the presentation of Pirelióforo by Padre
Himalaia, has opened the largest photovoltaic central of the world
in Brinches, county town of Serpa, district of Beja and nearby
location of the 1 st Geo-Compadre in 2008. For some, view as an
expensive purchase of energy by others as an example to start the
production of clean energy, the Solar Center of Brinches, has an
installed capacity of 11 megawats and will produce 20 gigawats/hour
saving more than 30 tons in emissions of greenhouse
gases.
