Geocache Description:

A knot so quick PAG (Paddle And Grab) on the Braden River

Before you go rushing off to claim a find on what looks like a simple rural cache, note that this cache is paddle only. Was out kayaking recently with Paddler Found and the Paddlemasters from Jigg's Landing at Ward Lake to Linger Lodge on the Braden River and saw with the water level that we could of gone further upstream. So today I had some time and the storms seemed scattered enough so off I went to explore. Sure enough I got another one and a half miles or so further upstream then my last trip so in celebration what better thing to do then to place a geocache for my (and your) troubles. I think it's safe to say this is the ultimate upstream Braden River challenge.

This is a paddle only geocache so don't set out to try to make the find on foot, the cache was placed to make that pretty much impossible. And be sure to have some fun with what you'll find at the waymark spot N27 24.892 W82 26.743, you're as young as you act and this might bring out the kid in you, especially on a hot day.

The only listed public launch on the Braden River is actually at Jigg's Landing on Ward Lake at N 27° 25.910 W 082° 28.866 and by river that's about 6 miles one way to the cache, so plan on a 12 mile paddle for this small cache, and also check the water levels as during extreme low conditions it might be tough getting thru here. Cache was places in July and the water level was good, and several residents up this was have pontoon boats so the water level must remain fairly good. Might be some other places to launch from but that's up to you to find and use.

The further east you go on the Braden River, the prettier it gets. Lots of tree cover down this end and not many homes. There are several other paddle only caches and some paddle or land caches along the way. And remember, this is a small so bring your own pen. And during the stormy season be careful as this long a paddle can get you trapped in a thunderstorm without much escape (like I did the last two paddles) so keep an eye on the weather reports.

Enjoy!
