Geocache Description:


This cache is placed at probably the best view in South Africa!! I have taken many people up to the top of the amphitheatre to show them the sheer beauty of our country.

Located close to the rising of the Tugela River, you will marvel at the highest waterfall in Africa. Looking down the valleys and hills, one comes to the conclusion that this must be the place that the South African writer JR Tolkien had in mind while writing “Lord of the Rings”.

To get to the cache, you can drive to the Sentinel car park located at:
S28°43.653’ E028°53.460’, take the hiking trail towards the Chain ladders. The first climb is the steepest by far; from there it is quite easy.

Once you reached the top of the chain ladders, follow your GPS to the Cache (about 1600m away. The Cache is located in a very safe place, so do not go too close to the edge of the crack.

This is a great hike to walk, and worthwhile every step of the way. Always remember to take warm clothes, water and some food along. The weather can change quite rapidly. There is a hut at S28°45.293’ E028°53.507’ if you are desperate in need of shelter.

Please cover the cache in the same way as found to prevent accidental discovery of the cache.
