Geocache Description:

This is an easy-peasy cache! It involves a short walk in the woods, above the river bank, to a chess board. If there are two of you, you could stop and have a game!

Parking is to be found at the Harry Gardner Park. I recommend not driving off the paved road, as some have done, because the ground can be soft and cars can get stuck.

I love walking my dog in the wilder areas adjacent to the park. On one short public trail, I found a chess board, in an unusual place! I have attempted to re-stain the wooden chess squares, and decided that we needed a geocache nearby, that, in addition to the usual geocaching properties, would also contain chess and checkers pieces. The co-ordinates indicate the cache, not the chess board, but you are likely to find the board first! The cache is nearby. Please DO NOT REMOVE the chess or checkers playing pieces.

Please note that the North Fork Toutle River has changed its course slightly in recent years. The North Fork river is close by to this geocache, but all the maps show it as being a long way off. The exact point of the junction of the North Fork and South Fork Toutle Rivers is about a mile away from where it is shown on MapQuest and on Google Maps. When you are navigating with your device, this may cause confusion for you.
