Geocache Description:

This cache is located in an area of Hampshire that played an important role during the D-Day operations.

In 1941, the Royal Navy’s school of navigation moved to this area to avoid bombing raids on Portsmouth. In the early days of June 1944, the Allied Commanders, including General Sir Bernard Montgomery, gathered to take the final decision to launch D-Day. With a large part of the Allied fleet gathered in nearby Solent waters, bad weather forced the postponement of D-Day by 24 hours from the planned date of 5 June. Better weather was forecast however, and General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander, gave the order that the landings should be made on the next day.

After solving the clues, on the way to the cache, if you look southwards, you will be able to see the cache location for 150,000 tons of fuel oil (Portsdown Underground #1) (GCH3F1)

It is thought that Underground Radio Station – Portsdown Underground 2 (GCHNTG) may be linked to this area by a series of tunnels.

You may leave your car at the car park position given above for the duration of this cache. In this car park, you will see a notice board:

1:ABCD is the Ordnance Survey Scale used in the base map.

Now stroll around the village for the following:

E is the number of letters in the fruit that made Monty’s juice

F is the number of miles to Denmead

G is the missing digit within the number from which you may phone
