We tried to find a scenic spot to hide our cache, but didn't want to go off trail since the whole island is basically a preserve. It's also very steep near the scenic roads leading out of town and we didn't want anyone to tumble down the hill (even though they do have a search and rescue team there!)
The hint gives it all away. Don't look unless you want to find it without your GPS.
By the way, show some respect while there or you might not sleep at night. Say hi to Duke for me (though the cache is not next to him!). Stay on the trail, no need to go cross country on this one.
This is the first cache I've hidden. Feel free to give me any tips. I averaged 6 readings with my Magellan Colortrak. The cache is under the trees, but I didn't have trouble getting readings. You will be out of view of the road when you come upon the container.

3/23/2004 Update: I just got back from visiting the island and the cache after two years. I've been reading about the sorry state of the cache container so I took another one with me. I was surprised to find the original container in outstanding condition! Somebody couldn't find the cache last year and thought it went missing. They placed another cache and it's been dueling caches since. They were only about two feet apart, each with current log book entries. I removed the second cache and thinned out the loot. Some of the log entries said it was easy, and others thought it was a little more difficult. Take the encrypted hint, just in case. Enjoy!
