The pupils of "Treasures of the mountains" Comenius project in the 3rd grade of Secondary school in IES Montbui (Catalonia, Spain) have found our first cache thanks to the help of the teachers from "Camp d'Aprenentatge de l'Alt Berguedà" who explained us how to use the GPS and seek a cache. It has been exciting!

This project challenges our students (from 8 different countries: Austria, Italy, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey) to discover the different treasures hidden in the immense landscape of the European mountains: Alps, Pyrenees, Sudeten, Tatra (Carpathians), Balkan range and Turkish mountains. It is not only the obvious natural values what we want they search, but also the cultural heritage left by mountains dwellers since the prehistory up to nowadays. In order to achieve this aim students trekking in the mountains will be an essential target of the project, because only from the footprint it is possible to understand the meaning of the land and its population. Besides, it is necessary the valuation of the past history in order to understand and learn how to choose the values for the future civilization.
We would like to ask ourselves about our lifestyles by focusing on the sporty and healthy way of living. We are eager to cooperate with others who share the same ideas of learning about nature, ecology and culture of their region. Moreover, we would like to add to this physical involvement, we mean sport. Living in rural regions supposes a lot of opportunities to practice physical exercises such as trekking in the mountains or cycling. While walking in the mountains we would like to experience our ancestors’ way of living by learning how to light a fire, make a fireplace, build a shelter or simply by collecting herbs. As far as biology, ecology or geography are concerned we may identify and distinguish trees and plants, learn how to use a map and a compass to get to a geocaching and measure the temperature, speed, depth and clearance of the water in the rivers and glaciers.
