Geocache Description:

EN: Former highway road H1 was built at a time when our roads are built workings brigade. Linking the Ljubljana to Zagreb and Belgrade, and they named the road of brotherhood and unity.

EN: Motorway "Brotherhood and Unity" or Highway of Brotherhood and Unity (Serbo-Croatian "Autoput Brotherhood i Jedinstvo" or Auto-road fraternity s unique, shorter even than the "Highway") was two-lane roads that connected several republics of the former Yugoslavia. It ran through Ljubljana to Jesenice near Novo mesto and Brežice through Zagreb, Slavonski Brod, Vinkovci past to Belgrade, Niš and then pass through to Skopje Macedonian-Greek border. Construction began immediately after the Second World War, Yugoslavia to thereby become well connected, as compared by prior pre-war link that has been drawn from the local, in most cases, unpaved roads. Rich piece of work carried out by youth working brigades that made up Yugoslavia and from abroad to juniors and Yugoslav army, bringing the total to nearly 300,000. First it was a complete section of the "Zagreb-Belgrade" in the length of 382 km, was officially opened on 27 July 1950.

Cesto so pričeli uradno graditi 1. aprila 1958. leta.

EN: Highway Road of Fraternity and Unity Ljubljana - Zagreb was built in 1958 on the initiative of the President of Yugoslavia Josip Broz - Tito. The road was officially started to build the first April 1958. year. Work on the 80 km long section were completed in less than eight months. Thus, the road is open to traffic 23 November. The opening was celebrated with great jubilation in the Main Square of Dolenjska region capital city - Novo mesto.

EN: Despite the name, there was no highway to the right highway, the road had a single carriageway with two lanes of traffic concerned (for each direction of one lane) had separate carriageways but had free junctions with local roads and railways. Later the building was planned in the second half to complete and complement the highway. The road was scheduled to load around 9000 vehicles per day, and later to 40,000 vehicles. The major part of the road was built from concrete slabs with intermediate spacings, there was something of asphalt and some short sections of cubes.

EN: In the following decades, the road was very frequently, and in particular freight traffic, which has quickly come to an extremely poor condition. In the following years they have renovated several times, as well as expanded - part of the road from Zagreb to the Croatian-Serbian border, was also upgraded to a four-lane highway with stabling lanes, part of the road from the Serbian-Croatian border via Belgrade to Macedonia upgraded to a four-lane fast road, which is now in relatively poor condition.

EN: In 1992, after the independence of Croatia and the war in this area, traffic is interrupted until the liberation of some occupied region in 1995.

EN: With the construction of the A2 motorway in Slovenia was a major part of this freeware in the Dolenjska region crashed and built on a new, in Gorenjska region is mostly retained. The current road is part of European route E61 (Austria-Ljubljana), E70 (Ljubljana-Belgrade) and E75 (Belgrade-Greece).
